How Do We Construct Our Teachers?

  • Constructivist Approach: Constructivist teaching is based on constructivist learning theory. It is based on the belief that learning occurs as learners are actively involved in a process of meaning and knowledge construction as opposed to passively receiving information. Learners are the makers of meaning and knowledge. Student - teachers are made to construct their own content knowledge with the help of Instructional (teaching) inputs and material provided by the teacher-educators for the core subjects method specific subjects, as well as electives.
  • Flipped Classroom: Followed by instruction in each subject, student-teacher groups work on the hands-on / hand-outs / exercises, peer interact, discuss, and demonstrate their learning through seminars and consortiums conducted.
  • Assessment of Learning: Several measures are in place to ensure learning and level of motivation to learn in the student teachers. These measures include, closed/open monthly tests, projects, learning reports, assignments, monthly tests, seminar presentations, self- or peer-appraisals, etc. Student teachers may practice mastery in more than one assessment practices. Teachers mark or grade the responses and provide the immediate feedback. The student teachers are asked to modify or re-do their assignments in case of unacceptable performance.
